I designed a country village on this train layout.  The photograph shown here is of the wooded area near the country village.  I decided to extend the road from the decking onto the hand painted backdrop to create another realistic look.  

These two photographs show the transition from the decking to the hand painted backdrop of Barry's portable o gauge layout. By merging these, I was able to create a seamless transition that carries the viewer's attention deeper into the scene.
